For many men, gynecomastia, or the abnormal growth of male breast tissue caused by genetics, being overweight, or other factors, can deeply hurt feelings of self-worth and confidence. Ukani performs male breast reduction surgery to help men from Coquitlam, Surrey, and throughout British Columbia regain their feelings of masculinity and find satisfaction with toned, proportionate physiques.
If you’d like to learn more about how male breast reduction with Dr. Ukani can restore your confidence, request a consultation using our online form, or give the office a call at (604) 931-1893.
Are You a Candidate?
Good candidates for gynecomastia surgery in Port Moody are adult men who are generally healthy and able to maintain steady weights. Although the procedure may be performed on adolescents, it is sometimes better to wait because breast tissue may continue to develop, potentially requiring additional surgery in the future.
Potential patients should have realistic expectations for the outcome of the surgery, as well as a thorough understanding of the recuperation process and procedure. During the consultation, Dr. Ukani discusses the procedure at length with each patient, evaluating the patient’s motivations and ultimate goals. He works with each patient to develop a sound treatment plan that creates natural-looking, discreet results.

Credentials You Can Trust
How Is Male Breast Reduction Performed?
Dr. Ukani performs male breast reduction using the following techniques:
Liposuction
If your excess breast tissue is caused primarily by fat, liposuction may be a sufficient treatment. Liposuction patients receive local anesthesia to numb the treatment area. Dr. Ukani uses a series of small incisions and a thin tube, called a cannula, to loosen and suction out excess fat.
Surgical Excision
In the case of true gynecomastia, in which enlarged glandular tissue and excess skin are present, surgical excision may be required. With this approach, Dr. Ukani removes the mammary glands, ensuring that the breasts do not continue to develop. Depending on the patient’s anatomy, he may also remove excess skin and reshape the areola for a smooth, natural-looking chest contour. Dr. Ukani conceals most incisions within natural contours of the body; the resulting scars are typically faint and discreet.
Your Recovery
The specifics of your recovery depend on the nature of your surgery. Dr. Ukani spends plenty of time explaining what you can expect so that you’re well-prepared for the recuperation process.
In general, patients can expect to take about a week off from work. During this time, you’ll be advised to stay off your feet and avoid any heavy lifting, as it may alter your healing and results. More strenuous activity, including working out, can typically be resumed after several weeks. Some bruising and swelling are normal, and discomfort can be managed with prescription medication.
How Long Do Results Last?
The results of male breast reduction surgery can be maintained for life by closely following Dr. Ukani’s postoperative instructions and living a healthy lifestyle.
